Embracing Red Lip Color

Hey babes, A here.

When it comes to beauty, I keep it pretty basic. Tinted moisturizer, little bit of concealer for my ever-present under-eye circles, bronzer, eyeliner, mascara, and I’m done. Occasionally I’ll play with some eyeshadow but I don’t really know what I’m doing with it, and I really prefer a natural eye look most of the time.

But recently, I have been kicking up my no-frills beauty look with something bold and fun: red lip color. And I love it. It makes me feel empowered, classy and sexy. It’s kinda high stakes because if you “color outside of the line” it’s a pain in the ass to clean, but practice makes perfect and it’s totally worth it. In my quest to embrace the red lip color, I have a compiled a few favorites that I want to share.

Up first is the Real Her matte liquid lipstick in “True Red,” which I actually received in a FabFitFun box last year. It’s a deep red, and super long-wearing which makes it lower-maintenance than some other formulas. As a side note, this is by far the best lipstick application I had for photoshoot purposes.

Up next, we have Fenty Beauty Stunna in “Perfect Universal Red”, a rec from my dear friend Maggie Tyson, and I freakin love this color. The name is right - it’s the perfect universal red. This is long lasting too - we’re talking apply once in the morning, and it’s still going strong when I get home from work at 6pm. As a bonus, the packaging could not be more glam.

Remember that thing I said about my application getting worse and worse throughout these photos? Well, don’t let my slightly sloppy application take away from this Sephora Liquid Lipstain recommendation because this color (Coral Sunset) is everything. This is not quite as long-lasting on me as the Fenty formula, but there is almost zero transfer onto my several daily coffee cups. Highly recommend.

What are some of your favorite red lip colors? Let us know in the comments - I’d love to try them out!
